The HSUS Facts on US Horse Slaughter

***Which kinds of horses are slaughtered?

Horses slaughtered include (losing race horses) lame or ill, riding school, camp horses, pergnant mares, foals -"byproducts" of (PMU), drug Premarin®. Ponies, mules, donkeys as well.

HSUS investigators witnessed horses purchased for slaughter in good health, bought for a few hundred dollars. Horses of all ages & breeds are slaughtered, from draft to miniatures.
**********
***How many horses are slaughtered each year?

(Tens of thousands) of live horses are transported across the border to
Mexico and Canada for slaughter.
**********
***Who eats horse meat?
The largest markets are France, Belgium, Holland, Japan, and Italy.

**********
***How do unwanted, surplus horses end up at slaughterhouses?

Most horses destined for slaughter are sold at livestock auctions or sales. Often, terrified horses and ponies are crammed together and transported to slaughter in double-deck trucks designed for cattle and pigs. Some horses arrive at the slaughterhouse seriously injured or dead.
**********
***How are the horses killed?

Highly alert horses are stabbed multiple times in the neck with "puntilla knife" to sever spinal cords. The horse is conscious, is "not" stunning method. It paralyzes, leaving horses twitching on the ground, unable to move or breathe, death from suffocation or blood loss & dismemberment. With US export of horses to slaughter over 300%, undercover footage shows live horses dragged, whipped, crammed in trucks in 110 tmp to a horrific form of slaughter in MX & CN. Conditions in slaughterhouses—stressful & extremely frightening.
**********
***What is The Humane Society of the United States doing to protect horses?

The HSUS continues to assist states in passage of effective laws to govern treatment of horses sold for slaughter within their borders.

HSUS deals with smaller animals
PETA Took a big hit this week
Racing had a BIG win
No change will be done by Demands or Gestapo tactics such as what Peta TRIED to do. They slandered a man and his connections who is well respected in racing. Porter was a self made Millionaire before he started with race horses. Fox Hill Farm DON"T need a dime from racing They already have Millions THEY JUST LOVE HORSES AND RACING.
It is well known that PETA has limited knowledge of the Equine but they shot their demands off any way and they made themselves look like fools.
Horse racing is alive and well and is here to stay
The activists motive was money and nothing else.

Gretchen has been using 4 or 5 different names on these threads. She /he or it has dug themselves a grave., with hate and false statements without their facts in order This has been proven.
Any business at one time or another deeds some change
Horse racing as with other industries will NOT tolerate radicals and demands from people who have little knowledge of that industry such as Peta.
In fact the media had given them little to no coverage since there first Gestapo demands.
The fact remains horse racing is here to stay and Peta has to except this fact.
Why because with out horses racing the economy will suffer. There are millions of people in the racing industry, and some Race tracks are on the NY Stock Exchange
Change yes
Demands by radicals No

Average Race Track:
Has at least 240 horses stabled at their physicality
There are 65 Race Track in the US
240 times 65 = 15,700 horses.

There are Breeding farms with mares stallions and thousands of foals
Can't begin to estimate the total Way to large.

Now if PETA wants to eliminate Horse Racing
What does Peta plan to do with the thousand and possible million of race horses.

There would be NO alternative. They would have to kill them or sell for horse meat in dog food and ship to countries who consume horse meat for human consumption. Not to mention the bones being used for boan meal
PETA would come out with a BIG profit.
PETA equals $ for thenself.

Not to worry racing is here to stay
