I was wishing I was with Lou walking the dog in the 9th... but there I sat surrounded by screaming Cubs fans. I am surprised to say they were the rudest fans (even worse than the Mets!) I have ever been around. They were even fighting with each other!!

I was disappointed when Fredi left Gregg in after his visit to the mound. He clearly did not have his stuff last night.

If you could point to one player costing us many games its Hermida. He's just terrible.

Give Gregg a break. Blown saves happen. But, nice bunt Hermida. Cantu saved your cookies. Do you remember the last quality at bat you had? And Fredi still bats him 2nd. No clue Fredi. LoDuca will help, but why didn't you get rid of Pinto. Great management from top to bottom.
Gregg had 11 saves in a row and is having a very good season like he did last year. No one is perfect and the Cubs have a alot more fan support than us and a better team.

I have to agree about the (rude) Cubs fans getting out there to support their team, but it also left me wondering...

I'm all for baseball fans supporting their old hometown team, but if these fans live in South Florida and they are really baseball fans, couldn't they get out there a few times a year and cheer for their NEW hometown team? GO FISH!!

They may eventually become Marlins fans. I know alot of people that moved to S Fla and rooted for their "old" team for a number of years and then adopted the local team.

We are doing pretty good despite major budget constraints, I like to see more of Luis Gonzalez and less of Jeremy Hermida, besides the pitching staff we are AAA ball club with the exclusion of a few players, Gregg isn't a true closer our budget won't allow one or a true middle man, we are lucky to be in contention, Beinfest is a genius, I tip my hat to you.

>sigh< I think the correspondent above who said the Fish are on their slide out of contention is correct. At the moment I have more important things to do than sit here and comment on a declining team - there's a hurricane on the horizon and I got some awnings to unlace and some shutters to close. But here's a few quick thoughts: This is about the same time that they began to wheeze and sputter under Girardi, except that I suspect if Girardi were still here, this particular iteration of the Fish would be holding up a lot better. More and more of Fredi's decisions are beginning to smack of mental paralysis (as opposed to his normal active form of stupidity). His hopeless confidence in Willingham is an example. The batting fielding and baserunning coaches don't seem to be making a dent in the collective cluelessness of the players at the moment. Maybe Gregg wants to attribute the loss to one bad pitch, but those guys were on base ahead of Ward because he couldn't get over the plate in the first place. I don't think Gregg has been "dominant." A truly dominant closer works one two three innings on a routine basis. As another correspondent mentioned above, Gregg does his Mitch Williams impersonation most of the time instead. He was doing it last night when he decided to play Renyel Pinto for one miserable pitch.

Well, it's been good low budget fun for the past four and a half months, but I suspect it's time to sit back and watch the big boys take over now.

I want to know why Hanley is on first 3 times and never attempts to steal a base. Why is he leading off if you don't attempt to steal a base. And Hermida attempt at bunt was worse than a pitcher attempting a bunt.So have lead off man who don't attempt steal, no2 man who cant bunt. Thought the man batting second is supposed to handle the bat and move runners over. Jeremy 0 for the week, why still hitting second. And last the game on the line and you have Almezega bat what a joke. All you that support Freddie are nothing but losers. Did you see before the game Jacobs, Uggla, and Amezega more worried about their hair than baseball what a joke.

They are not true fans then. Like Marlins only have fans when they make playoffs. Moved down here 8 years ago and will ALWAYS be a White Soxs fan. But wish you could beat the Cubs but NO.

Give me a break, Gregg has NOT been dominant for a month. There's drama every time he pitches. Even if he gets a save, he's putting people on base and working from behind to get his **** out of trouble. A dominant closer ends the game fast and shortens the next one by forcing the opposition to shoot their bullets in the seventh and eighth because they know they don't have a chance in the ninth. Dominant, my ****!

Really? Check his stats since July 4th. Then talk. Idiot.

You know, I used to bleed another team's colors when I used to live in another area. Now, I live in S. Florida and have fully adopted my new home team. Why don't others do the same? Here we have a team that always defies the odds every year to be in contention for the playoffs, with a tiny payroll. Granted, this team as others in the past have their flaws, but come on these guys are always fun to watch, even if they break your heart with poor defense/fundamentals.

Erick: ANS wasn't talking stats, but a psychological situation that arises when a pitcher consistently is unable to keep runners off the bases in the late innings, whether they score or not. Gregg has been only one thing consistently this year, and that is streaky. He's 6-5, which tells you that, since he almost always comes in with the Fish up by a run or two, he has let the opposition even the score nearly a dozen times. I wonder how many of those six wins he entered with the score tied. If more than one or two, I'd be shocked. All of this, of course, doesn't event take into account how many inherited runners he's allowed to score. Point is, you have no right coming on here and demonstrating what a jackass you are by calling an idiot someone who backed up his opinion with perfectly substantial logic.

What happened to Arthur Rhodes? Wasn't he brought in to face left handed hitters in critical situations? Well, last night seemed a critical situation. Gregg was fortunate to have gottenh one out. It was obvious he didn't have his best stuff. Ward was 4 for 40.

Gregg's body of work has been terrific for years. To bashhim because he's not perfect is ludicrous.

Hey Old Gator. I fear you are right on all counts. I have been trying desperately to give Fredi, Gregg, et al the benefit of the doubt for a long time, but I am beginning to doubt. By the way, I don't think you'll need to worry about shutters for this one... fingers crossed.
GO FISH.
