Our Opinions: Finally, state bans dogfighting

At long last, Georgia has enacted a tough law against dogfighting, one of the few positives to come out of the sickening revelations that star Falcons quarterback Michael Vick engaged in the brutal blood sport ... via Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Well that's your opinion. Obviously you are in the minority, as Georgia listened to what their citizens wanted, and reacted to that request.

Sorry you think protecting animals from the sick demented sadistic people who would torture and fight these animals for their ENTERTAINMENT, but that simply tells us alot about who you must be.

You lose! The majority is with our side. And, by tightening up on this arena, he's also tightening up on the attendant drug and gun-running, and other connected crimes.

Right now I wonder why it took so long. Perdue is a veterinarian. This shouldn't have gone on this long. But I did call and thank him.

I hope Perdue will ban Vick too. Maybe his fans will move to Canada.

It won't do them much good. Even the CFL won't have a place for him until Goodell lifts his suspension:

But I agree, it would be great just to banish those who excuse Vick's behavior to another planet, not just another country.

"Ohio State Representative Tyrone Yates has proposed a bill today that would prohibit the ownership of pit bulls in the state of Ohio. The bill requires all owners to surrender their "pit bulls" within 90 days of the effective date of the proposed law. The bill is unequivocal that the dog warden "shall" euthanize all pit bulls within 10 days of their surrender.

Also under this proposal a dog warden or other officer that has probable cause to believe that a dog is a pit bull dog, may apply for a search warrant. With the search warrant the officer will have the authority to seize the pit bull dog and surrender it to the dog warden to be killed.

Please ask everyone you know to protest - on behalf of the many wonderful pitbulls in the world, for the many pitbulls and other dogs who have suffered and died due to human greed and inhumanity, for the many other dogs who will die if this passes and for the loss of our personal freedoms - this bill does not even provide a process for appeal in time to keep dogs from being seized and killed in 10 days!

Thursday morning at 7:15 am I contacted Joyce Beatty's office. I was going to leave a voice mail for her expressing my opinion. This lady answers the phone (very cocky and rude) I explained to her I wanted Joyce Beatty's voice mail and she lies and tells me she doesn't have one!! I called her on it and she stuck to the lie... Today,(Holiday) I call the office again, all the sudden now she has voice mail... This lady also told me I was calling the wrong place,(another lie) and I asked well where should I call do you have a number? She say's NO. Hmmmmmm.
So needless to say when I left my message to Joyce Beatty I also let her know she has a LIAR answering her office phone and that I felt she could be better represented by a more honest/professional individual.

Ol' Tyrone, what a GD idiot. This bill shouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell of passing. There undoubtedly are more sensible minded people within the Ohio state legislature that know how ridiculous and constitutionally invalid this bill is. You can't "legislate" a family's pet, a dog no less, away from them because of your simple minded and ignorant beliefs.

I'd make a call to tyrone and ask HIM to try and come seize my dog..........then see who gets euthanized.

My God, how do some of these idiots get into the state legislature?

OMG, not even grandfathered in?????? OH how horrible--hopefully it will not pass--You know, if I thought GRANDFATHERING in bans on pit bulls would stop the dog fighting and stop these dogs suffering the way they are, it might be worth accepting the bans. But if the pit bull is banned, these despicable people will go on to another breed of dog, and effectively ruin the reputation of that breed. Next we would be reading how back in 1512, poodles were bred to kill each other. So why not make em fight?

Yates must be a real nut. Somebody should prohibit the existance of idiots such as him and those who would fight dogs instead of against the wonderful pit bull dogs.

I don't want to encounter the crazy lady you spoke to on the phone Lanie, and oftentimes these people will not listen to out of state people anyway, but will try and find some email addresses to voice my disgust at the proposal of this bill.

True. Because the heightened penalties plus rewards plus confiscation powers (due to the new federal laws) will make it too potentially expensive.

I was watching the bust of another Detroit dogfighter, on TV. The humane cops and the city cops went in, together. The humane cops took all of the (expensive) dogs and the dogfighting equipment. The city cops took the (expensive) drugs, money, and weapons. The state of MI took the house and all the vehicles. The dogfighter lost EVERYTHING.

I did the same even though I really don't think this bill had even a slight chance of being passed and enacted. The governor and that idiot Tyrone need to know that the public won't put up with moronic legislation like this and that was the main reason for emailing several of them.

I asked them if they were successful in their ban of the Pit Bull breed what would be their intention if the Labrador or the Collie topped the list of dogs who bit or attacked people. Would they proceed to comprise legislation that would ban their existance in the state also.

WOW... LOVE IT--- I agree, the idea that they can lose EVERYTHING should help stop these degenerate's from exploiting, abusing and fighting these innocent dogs. Fantastic to know they are actually doing this..And you know, once the greedy state realizes they can gain $$ from busting these idiots, maybe they will put more effort into busting them!!
